Judd Nelson Receives Carton of Cigarettes as Christmas Gift For 24th Straight Year
In the wake of the death of John Hughes, actor Judd Nelson admitted that last Christmas marked the 24th straight year his father gave him a carton of cigarettes and told him to “smoke up.”
“At this point, it doesn’t even phase me,” said Nelson, who acknowledged his whole personality was a creation of Hughes. “Me and my old man get along better than ever these days and a carton of cigarettes is usually at the top of my wish-list. Every year is a banner fucking year, and I couldn’t be happier.”
Nelson recalled that while in high school, he had trouble separating “christmas” cigarettes from “teach you a lesson by putting this out on your arm” cigarettes, but got over the hang-up after an extremely therapeutic day in detention.
“I used think it was so badass that while all the other kids got diamonds, I got stuck with smokes,” he added. “But really my Dad was trying to save me money. I don’t think I realized how expensive cigarettes were.”
