Conan Appears on Letterman to Plug The Tonight Show
In an attempt to increase viewership, Conan O’Brien made a surprise appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman last night.
On hand to plug The Tonight Show, O’Brien seemed completely at ease as he chatted with late night’s most watched talk show host. The only awkward moment came when Letterman reluctantly announced, “You can catch Conan at 11:30 every night, which yes, is the same time as this show.”
While the move was unorthodox, NBC execs felt the appearance could not have gone any better and served its purpose.
“Millions of people watch David Letterman every night on CBS,” said one NBC exec. “It’s the perfect venue to promote Conan’s lesser-watched, but just as funny talk show.”
The night’s Neilsen ratings revealed that 4.2 million people caught Conan’s appearance on Letterman. Just under 3 million tuned into The Tonight Show, which broadcast a rerun due to scheduling conflicts.
