MEXICO CITY (AP) – Carlos Pardo driver was killed in an accident during the final laps of the NASCAR race in Mexico, organizers said.

Brown was leading the race in 97th lap when his car was removed by a competitor and slid sideways in a wall at the entrance to the Pit Lane at about 120 mph on Sunday. The car disintegrated as a result of impact.

Pardo has been removed from the house, and sent by helicopter to a hospital. The Web site of NASCAR Mexico has indicated that he died 45 minutes later.

Brown was subsequently declared the winner of the race in Pueblo, east of Mexico City.

NASCAR truck champion Johnny Benson in the offices is stable in a serious condition, but after an accident during a fiery Supermodified race.

Benson reported multiple injuries, including burns and broken ribs.

1:30 AM ET Update: Hospital WOOD-TV said that Benson is in serious but stable condition. It continues to say “should be beautiful.” Great news. More Monday morning.

Sunday morning update: JB is at rest in the hospital and said that his sister Barb is worse for him. I mean it is fine. A broken rib injury suffered on the report when the information available. (Barb get some sleep!)
